Albert "Burt" Appouh (Obeng) is a contestant who competed on season 3 of Fishtank. The winner of season 3, he won on Day 42 in the finale over runner-up Binx.
Personal Life[]
He is autistic and has schizoaffective disorder. He claims to have grown up Catholic, poor, and to have held a variety of different jobs. An actor, firefighter, math professor, heavyweight boxer, gym coach, and personal fitness trainer. He claims to have an IQ of 160 and that he is recognized by MENSA, Intertel, and the Triple Nine Society. Burt is openly bisexual and a proud sex worker. His dream acting role is playing a sweet, nice guy who turns out to be an evil, twisted monster. He has admitted to having several muscle implant surgeries.
Fishtank Season 3[]
On Day 1, around 5:30PM, Burt engaged in the first instance of what came to be known as "burting off", stroking his bull in bed when the others weren't around. From then on, he frequently masturbated under the sheets, on camera, even after being told the show was live, sometimes pausing to address the audience while doing so. Burt has no shame about his fantasies, desires, and sexual history if questioned about it. He often develops a strong sexual attraction to other fish and freeloaders, including Ted, Alex B, Frank Hassle, Payton, and Brandon, and turns his lust to someone else in the tank once he is rejected. During act 1, before the initial reveal of Fishtank to Famous House 1.0, Burt interacted with "the computer" extensively.
Despite his outwardly sexual and provocative nature, Burt describes himself as a nice, easygoing guy who cares for others. He usually sticks up for his fish friends in times of conflict and has expressed his desire to split the $50k prize money among all the contestants if he won. He is prone to manic states where he theorizes aloud about the state of affairs and the underlying motives. Some of his theories of the show include it secretly being a queer male dating show, and an undercover cop "To Catch a Criminal" type show. Overall, Burt appears to be verifiably troubled, but shows some degree of self-awareness and genuine humor that has benefited him on the season.
Burt was highly endorsed on the website (before being surpassed by Luke in act 3), and drives constant attention from the audience and production. He is a strong competitor, winning many challenges; he was also the runner-up in the Cell challenge, but lost to Simbal after almost 29 hours.
On Day 23, Burt was taken out of the house to meet Xavier Ravenblood on the set of Vampire Bloodgames. Xavier later returned before the RV to christen Burt as "Golden Burt".
During act 3, Burt had a baffling arc in which he was ostensibly "mindwiped" in order to successfully act as a plant among the new cast. Although this was mostly a bit, Burt did also gain the ire of some fans when he sympathized with Brandon as a fellow queer individual. Burt also reignited banter with Luke upon the latter's return to the house, first as a Famous Star, then as a freeloader.
During the RV trip in between acts 3 and 4, Burt showed some discomfort with the close quarters, but he seemed to lighten up when arriving at Las Vegas. He technically received the most money during the panhandling challenge on the streets of Las Vegas, but the majority of it was from stream-sniping fans, and Binx was declared the natural winner of that challenge instead.
Burt was declared the winner of Fishtank season 3 on day 42, winning over Binx in the final 2. The novelty check that he was given upon winning had the "5" removed from the $50,000 grand prize, as Goldstriker said that the prize money had all been gambled away while they were in Las Vegas as a "real loss". Although this was largely a cinematic bit for the ending alongside Burt being "left" in the desert, Burt claimed on X that he did, in fact, receive no prize money. Burt later confirmed on the Painkiller Already (PKA) Podcast that he eventually received $15,000 in lieu of the "real" prize money.
After Fishtank[]
Burt successfully switched over to creating safe-for-work content under the name Burt Bronx, a new alias. He frequently livestreams a series titled "BURTSTREAM" on YouTube several times per week. Burt is the sole host and dedicates most of the show to interacting with his audience through chat and TTS donations. During the average runtime of 8 to 10 hours per broadcast, several hours are spent doing reactions to Fishtank related content and remaining time is dedicated to interviews others in the Fishtank community and comedy content featuring characters and scripted bits. "BRONX BROS" is a similar reaction/variety livestream but features Burt's brother William as the co-host. Burt now claims that he was leaning into stereotypes and playing up the eccentric behavior, paranoia, and other symptoms of his schizoaffective disorder. He asserts that it was a strategy to drive content, drive donations, and win over the audience.
Burt's real name is Albert; the nickname Burt is actually an initialism for "Black Urban Ripped Trainer" and "Black Urban Raw Top".
