Goldstriker is the host of Fishtank. He is a character played by comedian Sam Hyde, an executive producer and co-creator of fishtank.live. During season 1, he was known as Jason Goldstriker, while during season 2, he was known as Judge Jedidiah Goldstriker. During season 2.5, he was known as Duke Dragomir Zigoyner Gormedeous Von Goldstraven III or simply The Duke. During season 3, he was known as Jeremy Gold or simply G in acts 1 and 3, but returned to the Jason Goldstriker alias in acts 2 and 4.
Overview[]
Goldstriker typically appears once per day to issue tasks and challenges, bring gifts and grocery items, update the fish on the show's status, as well as cause chaos by destroying furniture, creating messes and loudly exercising. Many of his updates about the show's production are false, exaggerated or in jest in order to sew confusion among the fish.
Personality[]
Goldstriker has an exaggerated overconfident machismo personality and frequently makes braggadocios claims about his wealth and boxing ability. He frequently references his "million-dollar foreign car" that he uses to make appearances at the house. He has often told the fish that production of the show has put him into severe debt and the show is constantly at risk of ceasing production due to financial issues, however these statements are conflicted by his assertions that the show is unbelievably popular and upping the grand prize in increments of $10,000. During a talk with Jon, Goldstriker claimed that he'd "pissed away" all his money on clothes, cars and women.
Goldstriker often gives life advice of questionable validity, presumably in an effort to liken himself to controversial entrepreneur Andrew Tate, who Jon had a deep admiration for. Goldstriker has also made appearances with little reason other than to wreak havoc in the house, examples include putting on boxing gloves and punching the kitchen cabinet doors off their hinges, haphazardly overturning furniture and destroying items on the kitchen counter with an electric weed-whacker. Goldstriker also teaches weight-lifting and martial-arts techniques to the fish, and sometimes forces the fish (primarily Jon) to hold practice-pads for Goldstriker to strike.
He frequently gaslights, manipulates or otherwise antagonizes the fish for content, often stating the the show is more or less successful than it is, praising some fish while acting cold to others, and privately informing the fish that others are plotting against them. He has claimed that massively influential internet personalities such as Mr. Beast and Joe Rogan are discussing the show, and has also claimed that due to a lack of entertaining content from the fish, viewership has crashed and the show is losing thousands of dollars per day. He often references audience reception of the fish individually, typically in a heavily exaggerated manor.
Appearance[]
During season 1, Goldstriker was seen most often wearing a royal-blue three-piece suit with a red-striped tie, designer glasses and hair combed back and tied in a bun. He occasionally appeared in athletic-casual clothing in urgent or out-of-character moments. For example, during Simmons' elimination, the attire change was justified by the discovery of Simmons' questionable writings and social media presence interrupting Goldstriker's "mountain meditation session".
During season 2, Goldstriker sported a bright yellow suit with a pinkish-red cowboy hat.
During season 2.5 (Vampire Bloodgames), the Duke wore an all-black vampire hunter outfit. He introduced himself as "Dragomir Zigoyner Gormedeous Von Goldstraven III," but immediately forgot the full length of the name and was thereafter referred to simply as the Duke.
During season 3, Jeremy Gold wore stylish street clothes and various hats, in line with his appearance as a self-professed Instagram influencer. However, upon the reveal that the show was Fishtank, Jason Goldstriker came out donning an improved version of the suit from Season 1.
Goldstriker family[]
The character of Judge Jedidiah Goldstriker from season 2 is the father of Jason Goldstriker from season 1. This was confirmed during the trivia challenge on season 2's day 40, during which he mentioned "my son Jason Goldstriker" in a question about what car he drives.
One of the environmental set pieces for season 2.5 was a grave for Judge Jedidiah Goldstriker (1942-1991), indicating that he died at either age 48 or 49.[1] By extension, this also means that Jason Goldstriker, Judge's son, was likely born some time prior to 1991.
Notes[]
- The Goldstriker character is played by Sam Hyde and is a caricature of rich, arrogant television production executives. Sam has broken character several times during the show, most often during eliminations.
- In season 1, the character was initially introduced as Jonathan Goldstriker, although his first name was changed to "Jason" after the first few days of the show without explanation, likely due to potential confusion with the contestant Jonathan.
- "Gormedeous" being part of the Duke's full name in season 2.5 is a reference to a vampire character that Sam Hyde introduced himself as to iDubbbz during Sam's taunting interactions with him in The Truth About iDubbbz and Getting Away With It.
