Controversies[]
- Viewers of the show looked into Simmons' publication history and discovered a book he wrote on camp counseling, which included "tips" on how to date underage campers. He was removed from the house for the pedophilic writings, with Sam reading from the
- Mauro quit the show due to Simmons' involvement in the series and the events of the aftermath of his ejection.
- During the season, there were multiple mentions of a "mole" in the cast. Over time, it was seen that Damiel was allegedly planted into the Fishtank house as this mole to cause drama, and was ineligible to win the grand prize. This has been alluded to by Jet in interviews and speculated due to his friendship with Jet and Sam Hyde, and phone usage while in the house.
- Frank Hassle defecated and urinated multiple times on people's belongings while in the Fishtank house. He would eventually be removed for it.
- The edited, ten-episode release of Season 1 faced scrutiny from fans who had watched the series live for excluding several moments in the season, including much of Vance's schizophrenia arc during the disability challenge, as well as complaints of many early episodes lacking context due to the brevity. Although the episodes became longer as they went on, Frank Hassle and Jet Neptune also publicly had a heated exchange over many of Frank's moments being cut out of the series.
- Jonathan later tweeted several times condemning Fishtank, Sam Hyde, and what the show evolved into by its second season.
